Provide the Right Food and Drinks
Check with the senior’s doctor for guidelines on room temperature and ensure they have the ability to change the air temperature in their home with air conditioning or fans. If the temperature in their home is too warm take them to a place where they can cool off such as a community center or a mall. Make sure they drink plenty of fluids even if they don’t feel thirsty. Providing food and drinks with sodium and potassium can help to restore electrolyte balance. Choose sport drinks like Gatorade, broths, soups, soft fruits and vegetables.
